To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Barbershops & Hair Salons have been asked to close their shops. The problem is, the majority of licensed barbers & hairstylists are self-employed and they will not receive unemployment.
They also don’t have the luxury of paid time off, sick leave or health insurance. So many have been left with the difficult decision to remain open and risk infection, or close shop and risk losing their only source of income.
The men and women that work in this industry are hard-working professionals and deserve to be treated better for the impact they have on our communities.
The barbers & hair stylists that work in this industry need an Economic Hardship package. This should include the following:
-
Unemployment Benefits
-
Emergency Healthcare & Insurance for those who are uninsured
-
Low-interest loans to help support our barbers and stylists to cover their living expenses during this pandemic
I ask that you support our cause by signing this petition at Change.org
Personally, I am not a barber or hairstylist. But I don’t need to be a barber to understand their pain or to empathize with their struggle.
We are all scared, and we have been told to be patient during this time of uncertainty, the issue is, is that some of us can’t afford to be patient.
Every day that passes, more bills will start to pile up for the men and women of this industry.
And it will be them who must make the decision whether to risk infection, file bankruptcy, give up their home or lose everything they’ve worked for.
And that’s not fair, they deserve better than that.
And if you read this far, I’m sure you feel the same way too.
